PEVs: Getting Plugged In to the Newest Technology
This workshop will present a review of the plug-in electric vehicle value chain — from plug to wheel — providing participants with technical and market knowledge. Presentations will be made by experts on various charging and electric drive technologies and on the challenges currently facing wide-scale PEV adoption. This session will also include a panel examining materials for light-weighting PEVs as well as a panel focused on materials strategies. The experts will divide their time between lectures and Q&A opportunities to ensure broad participation. Â

Vehicle-to-Grid and Grid-to-Vehicle Connectivity
The value of vehicle-to-grid connectivity in a smart grid with PEVs can be an asset to improve grid efficiency, stability, and a source of revenue generation/cost savings for owners. Bi-directional power and communication connectivity is key. Insights will be offered by industry representatives including the battery industry, vehicle original equipment manufacturer, ancillary equipment manufacturer, electric grid utility, grid independent systems operator, and a standards organization.

Utility Perspectives on PEV Readiness
Facilitated by the Edison Electric Institute and utility leaders, this peer-to-peer workshop will offer case studies and discussions on utility challenges, opportunities, and innovative initiatives with respect to plug-in electric vehicle readiness and commercialization. This session will cover communications, collaboration, and outreach efforts with state and local stakeholders, as well as the challenges of and potential solutions for multi-family dwelling charging. Discussion will also focus on other relevant, pressing, urgent, or otherwise noteworthy issues.

The plug in electric vehicle has arrived on the road. Yet its’ future is far from certain. Not only is the question who will be driving PEVs, but what will they be driving? Both PEV technology and consumer perceptions are rapidly evolving. The panelist for the vision panel are the people making the business of plugging-in a reality. The vision panel will include leaders from mass market PEV manufacturers discussing the challenges of developing new technology, and communicating new technology to the consumer.

V2G meet V2I: The fundamental DNA of the motor vehicle is undergoing a dramatic shift. This shift has several dimensions; perhaps the two most important are electrification of the powertrain (replacing internal combustion) and connectivity via vehicle communication technologies (supplanting independent operation of each vehicle). These two shifts offer potential synergies, such as using connectivity to locate nearby charging systems and enhance vehicle-to-grid power management.

Sharing experience and vision is a critical first step in achieving the electrified city.
